Doane University, located at 50th & R streets in Lincoln, Nebraska, invites applications for the position of Financial Aid Counselor. The position provides excellent customer service and guidance to financial aid applicants and their families throughout the financial aid application process; determines eligibility within the parameters of institutional, state, and federal requirements. The position's responsibilities include advising and assisting students with all aspects of financial aid including determining eligibility, clarifying policies, managing the loan processes, and providing information to students on their financing options.

Required Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in technology and the systems used to determine student's eligibility and originate a financial aid award. (These may include: Colleague, NSLDS, COD, CPS, Scholarnet, MS Word, Excel, etc)
  • Ability to interpret complex financial aid regulations and apply them appropriately in different situations.
  • Understanding personal income tax laws as they relate to federal financial aid.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and complete multiple projects with multiple deadlines.
  • High level of attention to detail in every task.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to use sound judgment for decision-making.

Required Education/Training:

  • Associate's Degree and two years at an institution of higher learning or another highly regulated field.
  • Familiar with financial documents
  • Highly proficient computer skills

Preferred Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of experience in financial aid
