Doane University invites applications for the position of Annual Fund Director at its nationally recognized campus in Crete, Nebraska. As a member of our Advancement Team, we are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented individual who is responsible for the identification, engagement, cultivation, and stewardship of specific prospects. Primary emphasis is directed toward face-to-face solicitation of leadership annual giving prospects. The Annual Fund Director is also responsible for direct mail and electronic solicitations including but not limited to the fall mailing, the phonathon program, the employee giving program, and Doane's 24-hour day of giving.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and execute an annual multi-channel fundraising plan.
- Work with data services to prioritize solicitation lists for direct mail, calling and electronic solicitations.
- Create and coordinate production and execution of the fall campaign.
- Oversee and manage Phonathon.
- Work collaboratively with University partners on 24-hour day of giving plan and events.
- Increase overall giving (percent of alumni giving).
- Coordinate and manage employee giving campaign.
- Assist with reunion giving campaign.
- Develop appropriate stewardship efforts.
- Budget management.
- Travel within Nebraska and an assigned national region of the United States, identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding Doane University alumni and friends. Manage travel budget appropriately.
Annual Fund Solicitation Plan
- Plan, create and execute annual multi-channel annual fund communication plan. In collaboration with marketing, write and coordinate direct mail pieces with companion emails and social media.
- Create End-of-Year giving solicitation emails, letter, etc.
- Coordinate Champions Club program promotion, giving anniversary mailings/emails.
- Coordinate ThankView electronic solicitations and Give Campus platform campaigns.
Manage a portfolio of assigned donors
- Identify and conduct research on prospects, prioritizing contact with highest potential prospects.
- Cultivate prospective donors, engaging them more closely with Doane University in a way that is meaningful to them.
- Solicit assigned Doane University alumni and friends in support of the Doane Fund while building long term relationships and identifying philanthropic passions. Utilize refined oral and written proposal skills appropriately.
- Accurate and timely documentation and follow-up.
Manage Phonathon: (Seasonal)
- Create Greek Challenge campaign. Coordinate Greek actives to fill calling hours, recruit matching gift donors and provide training. Work with marketing to create messaging and promotion. Track and communicate final results.
- Recruit and train students for Spring Phonathon calling.
- Plan and schedule allotted number of calling days to achieve desired goal.
- Supervise and manage phonathon callers.
- Document and report in a timely manner dollars raised and contacts made.
Giving Day: (Seasonal)
- Recruit and train volunteers/advocates/matching donors for giving day.
- Work with marketing to create communication plan & write emails, content.
- Collaborate with marketing on social media content and events.
- Document and report in a timely manner dollars raised and contacts made.
- Collaborate with Donor Relations to create and execute appropriate stewardship plan.
Advancement Office Administration
- Manage Sponsorship requests/opportunities account
- Work with front-end staff to maintain inventory of birthday cards, note cards, anniversary cards, and specialty envelopes/letterhead
- Work with IT to maintain contracts with fundraising platform GiveCampus, ThankView and Match360/Double the Donation.
- Work with gift entry specialist to provide giving receipts and official tax documents to donors.
Education Required for Position:
- Bachelor's degree
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 3 years of fundraising experience, and/or related experience in communications and marketing.
- Basic understanding of higher education advancement and development, annual giving, and alumni relations and enthusiasm for fundraising and commitment to liberal arts education
- A poised, professional manner and an ability to establish congenial working relationships with diverse constituencies, including staff, faculty and trustees, donors, volunteers, alumni, students, parents, and various university partners.
- Ability to perform standard business math; track financial data and make projections; draft and compose correspondences and standard reports; plan, organize, coordinate, and prioritize multiple tasks, and use independent judgment.
- Organizational skills, attention to details, and ability to assume responsibility for completing projects efficiently.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse campus community.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to travel and attend meetings and functions at various hours as required.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience working within an Annual Fund Department.
- Experience in a college, university, or a national campaign environment helpful.
- Experience with an alumni database or donor management and phonathon software systems.
- Familiarity and comfort with various digital engagement tools, including social media, video creation, and digital marketing/communications.
Education Preferred for Position:
- Master's Degree
